Grain Rain: A final spring party

source:           editor:Wenny

Grain Rain is the sixth of the 24 solar terms, also the last one in spring. Grain Rain originated from the ancient version "rain germinates all grains", and it falls between April 19 and April 21 in the Gregorian calendar.

The name "Grain Rain" came from a folk-tale. It is said that in the era of the Yellow Emperor, while Cang Jie (governor of the local granary) was creating the Chinese characters, he said in his dream, "I want to have plenty of grain so that the people can have enough food." The next day, there were millions of grains falling down from the sky. The Yellow Emperor took this day of millet rain as a festival, hence the Grain Rain Festival.

Grain Rain, similar to other solar terms such as Rain Water, Grain Full, Minor Snow, and Major Snow, reflects the precipitation phenomenon. It is also a reflection of the seasons in the ancient farming culture, and it has been widely applied up to now.
