On March 18th, a group of approximately 270 Sichuan Golden Snub-nosed Monkeys migrated in the Qinling Mountains. The heartwarming sight of several mother monkeys cradling their golden infants provided a vivid snapshot of springtime ecology in the Qinling Mountains.
In March, the Zhouzhi National Nature Reserve in Shaanxi Province comes alive with the colors of spring. A troop of Sichuan Golden Snub-nosed Monkeys, including newborn infants, is active in the dense forests of the Qinling Mountains, migrating down the valley to lower-elevation broadleaf forests. The newborn monkeys cling to their mothers, and their pale golden fur stands out beautifully in the sunlight.
In recent years, Zhouzhi National Nature Reserve, a crucial habitat for Sichuan Golden Snub-nosed Monkeys, has seen a significant improvement in habitat quality thanks to ecological restoration and monitoring patrols.
A patrol ranger explained that the monkey troop migrates in spring to search for food, including tender shoots and flower buds. The warmer, lower-altitude environment supports the growth of infants. Currently, it is the peak season for Golden Snub-nosed Monkey births, with three newborns observed this month. The troop's expanded range and stable population growth highlight the success of ecological protection efforts in the Qinling Mountains.
The spring mountains, covered in misty blue-green, are animated by the leaping silhouettes of a monkey troop among blossoming peach trees. The emergence of these "Qinling spirits" adds another vibrant note to the ecological revitalization of Shaanxi.
