Recently, the Joint Statement Between the People's Republic of China and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan was released. Both sides extended congratulations on the successful completion of the training program for 1,000 young agricultural technicians from Pakistan in China. As one of the main host institutions of the program, Northwest A&F University has so far accomplished the important task of training 355 young agricultural talents for Pakistan, fulfilling its commitment to agricultural cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative through concrete actions.
Launched in September 2024 and commencing its first session in April 2025, NWAFU (Northwest A&F University) has since completed two training sessions for Pakistani agricultural talents. The trainees—young technical and managerial personnel with bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degrees—come from Pakistan's provincial agricultural departments, large farming and livestock enterprises, and universities. Their expertise spans seed production and processing, livestock disease control, animal and crop breeding and genomics, and intelligent agricultural equipment, among other fields.
Responding to Pakistan's agricultural needs, NWAFU introduced an integrated four-dimensional training model—combining theory, practice, research, and cultural exchange—with modular teaching and a progressive path of intensive study, hands-on practice, on-site research, and cultural immersion, creating a systematic development pathway for the trainees.
At one China-Pakistan agritech exchange event, nearly 50 Chinese enterprises and cooperatives took part, and 17 Pakistani trainees reached preliminary cooperation agreements with Chinese companies. To date, two trainees have stayed at NWAFU for doctoral studies, four have secured admission intentions from NWAFU doctoral supervisors, and many others have received offers for further study at various Chinese universities.
