President Xi Jinping extended congratulations on the 80th anniversary of the launch of the Chinese people's overseas broadcasting services on Friday, urging greater efforts to build world-class new mainstream media with strong influence.

Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, extended greetings to the staff of China Media Group, as well as to foreign friends who have supported the Chinese people's broadcasting work.

Over the past 80 years, the overseas broadcasting services, under the CPC's leadership, have been committed to ensuring that the Party's guidelines are well understood, introducing China's development in an all-around manner, and telling China's stories and conveying China's voice, he said.

Xi said that he hoped they could continue to make innovations, enhance the capability of international communication and build world-class new mainstream media in order to make new contributions in realizing the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation and building a community with a shared future for mankind.

Huang Kunming, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, read out Xi's letter at a symposium on Friday.

Huang urged efforts to widely introduce China's paths, ideas and proposals through media such as radio and the internet and to tell the stories of the CPC and China today through voices and images to present a reliable, admirable and respectable China.

On Dec 3, 1941, the CPC set up a radio station at its revolutionary base in Yan'an, Shaanxi province, to broadcast in Japanese, marking the launch of the Chinese people's overseas broadcasting services.
