Companies based in Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, are said to have contributed to the success of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, which opened on Feb 4 and are being held in and around the national capital city until Feb 20.

The design and manufacture of all systems except the acceptance for the torch for the Beijing 2022 Games were completed by a development team from the Xi'an-based Academy of Aerospace Propulsion Technology at China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation.

At the opening ceremony of the Games, a large display screen with a dynamic 3D effect is said to have wowed the world audience.

The ultra-wide temperature liquid crystal display material used in the display screen was developed by an organic polymer composite materials team led by Professor An Zhongwei and Professor Chen Xinbing from Shaanxi Normal University.

In addition to Xi'an's cutting-edge technology, people from the city have also been prominent during the Games, in various capacities. Zhang Yimou, director of both the Beijing 2022 opening and closing ceremonies, is from Xi'an.

Moreover, many Xi'an teenagers are serving as volunteers at the Games.

At the opening ceremony, Xu Dini, the guide of the Polish delegation and Gao Yishan, the guide of the Moroccan delegation – Xi'an residents, who are currently studying in Beijing – helped showcase the Chinese style, with their elegant demeanor and high-spirited attitude.
