Jack, who is 35 years old, is from South Africa. He came to Shaanxi five years ago with his wife, and now he has become a local of Shaanxi. While he is a full-time teacher, Jack is also passionate about showing people the real life of foreigners in China via photos and videos. "My dream is to travel all of China, documenting the people and stories around me, and presenting the true facet of China, which is friendly, full of opportunities, and with a bright future."

It's all about love

Jack came to China for the first time in 2015, "I came to China to visit my parents-in-law. But I was only allowed a tourist visa, so we stayed in Shaanxi for only one week. However, during this trip, I saw some amazing things. We went to the Bell Tower, the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, and we even went climbing Mount Hua. I also took a bite of Roujiamo for the first time."

Before coming to China, Jack was already the acting general manager of a large language company in Thailand. "It was a very good position, but I decided I would leave that job to follow my wife to China, for there are also a lot of new opportunities here."

Explore the meaning of work

Currently, Jack is working as a kindergarten headteacher at Xi'an Liangjiatan International School. "I can honestly say it's one of the best schools that I have ever worked at. The staffs are all amazing and there are a ton of resources at the teacher's disposal. And the support that teachers have is absolutely remarkable. The school truly creates a beautiful learning environment."

"This is a pretty inclusive international school, the children are from different countries, with various language and cultural backgrounds integrated. Here students are provided with a very multicultural learning environment." Jack said, "My students are all very cute and they're all very friendly, and they truly trust and love their teachers."

"It doesn't matter where they come from, they'll learn about other countries and their friends from different places." From daily life to class learning, Jack is involved in every little detail of the children's life here, and he is literally a parent to them, accompanying them to grow up joyfully.

A teacher but also a passionate vlogger

Jack's biggest hobbies are photography and vlogging. As he lives in China now, Jack often goes into the street and starts his "Street Photography", recording the daily life of the average Chinese. "I hope to capture what the expats see as the real China via photos and videos." Jack said.

Before he came to Xi'an, Jack's knowledge of China wasn't great. Even now, his many international friends still hold stereotyped images of China. "As an expat living in Xi'an, I hope that more and more people can capture a real and positive China through my camera, whether it is in the countryside or in the city."

"In the future, I hope to invest more energy into vlog making, and to travel all of China, visiting different places, meeting different people, and presenting the real and beautiful China with my camera." Jack said.
