Charming and trendy Xi'an in graffiti art works

source:           editor:Zhang Wenni

When Xi'an encounters graffiti art, the tradition and trend are well harmonized. "涂鸦 Tu Ya", the Chinese description of graffiti, originated from the poet Lu Tong in the Tang Dynasty, joking about the scribbling of his son. Later, these two Chinese characters have been widely used to represent "GRAFFITI", which includes realistic portraits and scenes, as well as 3D artworks.

The "AST" graffiti team was founded by Bai Liang, Guo Xinyu and Guo Xiaoguang, who are all "post-80s" in Xi'an. They integrate graffiti art with traditional urban cultural elements such as ancient city walls, Terracotta Warriors, and Hanfu girls, creating various "Xi'an-exclusive" graffiti works. The trendy side of Xi'an has been well showcased through the unique visual impact of their works. The team has also won many awards in China.

The very first graffiti work themed with the Xi'an City Wall by Bai Liang, 2004."The bigger the wall, the more room you can play with." The creation of graffiti work usually requires team discussion and work breakdown to determine the font background, first draft, splicing adjustment, measurement and shaping, spray painting, and so on. It usually takes a week to do the "makeover" for a wall, endowing it with a refreshing connotation.

As AST put it, "Xi'an has so many resources to offer for graffiti art, and we hope that our creations can showcase Xi'an well. Although the trends are constantly changing, we insist on applying as much as traditional elements of this ancient city to balance the tradition and trend smartly."

The profound history and unique cultural features of Xi'an lead to various art creations. As the city becomes an artistic masterpiece, you and I are also included in the picture.
