A Bangladeshi family who traveled a long distance has been living a lovely life in Xi'an. Mohammad Musa graduated with his PhD and began teaching at a university in Xi'an. His wife, Lina, also graduated with a PhD in Xi'an, currently focusing on her postdoctoral research at the same university.

Their son A Fu is already used to the local life, studying at a public elementary school in Xi'an. "My son learns Chinese courses, enjoys Chinese cuisine, and makes Chinese friends. He is now a local kid." Musa shared.

In 2016, Musa's wife Lina applied to study abroad at a university in Xi'an, but at that time, their child was only two years old. Considering the possible difficulties of living in a foreign country, they gave up the opportunity. Unexpectedly, two years later, the couple both obtained the opportunity to pursue a PhD at Shaanxi Normal University.

"From the internet and friends who have studied in China, we have learned a lot about the ancient and modern stories of China," Musa said, "China has a long history and splendid culture. It boasts mature educational system and rapid economic development, and we have captured all of these in Xi'an. My wife and I believed that studying in China would be a great opportunity to enhance our capabilities."

In October 2018, Musa with his family arrived in Xi'an. At Shaanxi Normal University, Musa and Lina both majored in Western Economics. However, overcoming the language barrier was their top priority at first.

In 2023, Musa and Lina graduated with their PhDs. Musa was hired as a teacher at Xi'an Eurasia University, while Lina continued her post-doctoral research at Shaanxi Normal University. Their son A Fu was already a third-grade elementary school student then.

Musa said the students' thirst for knowledge drives him to offer more, "When they are listening attentively, I feel that teaching here is very meaningful, and I will therefore work even harder."

Lina shares a fun story: Over the years, their Chinese proficiency level has varied wildly. A Fu is the best, followed by Lina and then Musa. Lina credits her son for her progress, for she has to help him with his homework via Chinese every day.

As the only foreign child in the entire school, A Fu has been learning Chinese for a few years now. He has mastered Chinese much better than his parents and often helps translate for his mom and dad.

A Fu often searches for Xi'an and Dhaka on the globe. In his eyes, Xi'an and Dhaka, China and Bangladesh and not far apart.
