Xi'an, the city of Hanfu

Xi'an, an ancient city with a history of thousands of years, has become the main stage of Hanfu.Recently, a seminar on the development of the Hanfu industry in Shaanxi revealed some updated statistics: As of now, there are 1,814 enterprises associated with Hanfu in Xi'an, making it the number one city in China for Hanfu consumption and experience.

Yanta, Beilin, Lianhu, and Xincheng districts in Xi'an are home to over 90% of the city’s Hanfu makeup and styling shops. According to the data from Meituan, a major Chinese e-commerce platform, 467 Hanfu stores in Xi'an are registered on its platform, which is the highest number among China’s tourist cities. Three of the top ten daily revenue-generating Hanfu stores in the country are in Xi'an.

In Shaanxi province alone, there are 2,053 Hanfu-related businesses, accounting for over 25% of the national total. This has fueled the growth of sectors such as makeup supplies, styling services, and photography and videography. Meanwhile, the production of short dramas and the development of self-media related to Hanfu are also gaining momentum.

In recent years, an increasing number of people choose to wear Hanfu while traveling in Xi’an, making “Xi’an” and “Hanfu” a highly compatible search duo. This historical capital has become the main stage for traditional Chinese clothing.Walking in Xi’an, one is surrounded by countless cultural legacies. The city’s intrinsic ancient character makes it easy for one to reminisce about the past and feel history in the present, as if stepping into a history book, legend, or poem.

In recent years, Xi’an has created a series of immersive digital cultural and tourism scenarios, and has launched themed tourism routes, which provide more occasions for tourists to wear Hanfu in Xi'an.

There are also various themed events, such as the “Hanfu Festival” and “Hanfu Fashion Shows,” which attract the attention and participation of Hanfu enthusiasts across the country. As Chinese traditional culture has been incorporated into tourism and people's daily life, people wearing Hanfu have become part of the urban landscape.

A complete industrial chain for Hanfu design, production, sales, and rental has taken shape in Xi’an. Consumers can enjoy a mature experience, from choosing their outfits and makeup to arranging photoshoots.

Hanfu serves as a bridge between the traditional and the modern, and also binds tourists closely to a city.
