On Aug 28, the "Discover the Civilization of Zhou and Qin Dynasties, Capture the Charm of Baoji" media group visited the Zhougong Temple in Fengming Town, Qishan County, Baoji City.
Lei Xiaoya, the docent of Zhouyuan Scenic Area, introduced that, as early as the early Western Zhou Dynasty, the place was already a scenic attraction. Zhougong, namely Duke of Zhou, surnamed Ji, named Dan, the fourth son of King Wen of Zhou, twice assisted King Wu of Zhou in defeating the Shang Dynasty. In his later years, Zhougong retired here, establishing the Rites of Zhou. Zhougong Temple can be seen as the birthplace of the Chinese civilization of rites and music.
The Chinese have always held exemplars and role models in high esteem, and have a tradition of learning from the sages. The qualities that Zhougong embodied influenced the Chinese approach to life and morality.
In the history of Qishan, a man with great virtue was as famous as the Duke of Zhou. He is Shaogong, Duke of Shao. Shaogong was a member of the royal clan in Zhougong's period. Shaogong assisted King Wen, King Wu, King Cheng, and King Kang of the Western Zhou Dynasty, advocating virtue and demanding abstinence from corruption.
The rule of virtue, meritocracy, diligence, honesty, and benevolence advocated by the sages of the Zhou Dynasty is the common pursuit of the Chinese nation, and it is still shining in the long river of history. As Qishan County has long been embedded with the Zhou culture, it was awarded the hometown of the culture of rites in China.
