On the evening of January 29, the first day of the Chinese New Year, the highly anticipated "2025 Silk Road Spring Festival Gala · Shared Silk Road, Shared Joy" made a stunning appearance to the audience.
This year's gala had a special significance, as the Spring Festival was officially added to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity last December. The 2025 Silk Road Spring Festival Gala not only celebrated the rich cultural heritage of the Silk Road but also offered a cultural feast that transcended time and space. It showcased the integration of Eastern and Western cultures to a global audience through innovative expressions and technological advancements.
The live fantasy show "Hodaye Gate", themed around time travel, is a major highlight. It draws inspiration from coins discovered along the ancient Silk Road during the Sassanid Empire period, creating an authentic historical reenactment. According to program director Zhao Hui, the show showcases the multicultural fusion and development of the Tang Dynasty, a time when various forms of entertainment and magic thrived. They manage to recreate the vibrant performances of that era in Chang'an City, bringing the splendor of the prosperous Tang period back to life.
During the gala, internationally renowned tenor Novikov from Russia collaborated with Northern Shaanxi singer Guo Tao to perform the song "Lament of Love". This performance beautifully blended Northern Shaanxi folk music with Italian opera, captivating global audiences and showcasing the enchanting harmony of diverse artistic expressions.
Russian female singer Katya collaborated with renowned Chinese singer Cai Guoqing and others to perform "Mountain Dances Like Silver Snakes", modernizing the traditional folk music "Dance of the Golden Snake" and perfectly blending it with international vocals.
Popular Chinese female singer Zhang Zining, along with a youth choir from far-off Kyrgyzstan, presents the song "Youth Dance Melody", conveying the vibrant energy of youth.
During the Chinese New Year holiday, the 2025 Silk Road Spring Festival Gala was broadcast on 10 major international media platforms, covering 62 countries and regions worldwide.
