On May 18, International Museum Day, the Xi'an Metro Group, in collaboration with the Yanta District Bureau of Cultural Relics, launched a major themed exhibition titled "Metro Meets Museum: Let Cultural Relics Whisper the History." Nine museums brought over 100 precious artifacts to be displayed in seven metro stations, creating a "moving cultural corridor" to offer the public an "accessible" historical and cultural experience.
The themed exhibition will run until June 18. Visitors can obtain exhibition guidelines through the navigation maps at each metro station.
As the core exhibition area of this event, Bell Tower Station showcases the characteristic collections of six major museums, forming a cultural matrix that blends ancient and modern elements. The other six metro stations also boast their distinct cultural charms.
At Qinglongsi (Qinglong Temple) Station, the "Auspicious Sheep in All Forms" themed exhibition, curated by the Xi'an Sheep Culture Museum, highlights artifacts such as Han Dynasty pottery sheep that embody both artistic and historical value.
At Datangbuyecheng (Grand Tang All Day Mall) Station, the "Mirrors Reflecting a Millennium" bronze mirror exhibition from the Xi'an Folk Custom Museum presents fine bronze mirrors from the Song Dynasty to the Ming and Qing Dynasties, where decorative craftsmanship and social customs complement each other.
At Hanyao Station, the "Treasures of Prosperous Eras" exhibition by the X'an Museum selects porcelain from various dynasties, reflecting the open atmosphere of Chang'an as an international metropolis.
At Dianshita (TV Tower) Station, the "Epic of Films: A Century-long Journey of Film Projectors" exhibition by Xi'an New Dream Film Museum displays vintage projectors, tracing the technological evolution of the film industry.
At Dongyilu (Dongyi Road) Station, the "A Pearl of Prehistoric Culture" exhibition by the Xi'an Banpo Museum applies Yangshao Culture relics, such as painted pottery basins with human-face and fish-scale patterns, to unveil the life wisdom of Banpo ancestors 6,000 years ago.
At Xingzhengzhongxin (Administrative Center) Station, two exhibitions are taking place: the Ming and Qing landscape and flower-and-bird paintings by the Art Museum of Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts, and the government kiln-produced porcelain from the Ming and Qing Dynasties by the Xi'an Ancient Ceramics Museum.
This exhibition breaks the spatial limitations of traditional museums, transforming metro stations into "wall-less museums" that reach millions of daily commuters.
During the event, four featured shops will open at three metro stations: Dayanta (Giant Wild Goose Pagoda) Station at Exits D and B, Xiaozhai Station at Exit D, and Dianshita (TV Tower) Station at Exit C. These shops will showcase unique cultural and creative products from seven museums. In the future, Xi'an Metro will continue to create diverse cultural scenarios through creative formats, technological innovation, and industrial collaboration, bringing millennia of culture into the daily lives of the public.
