On July 1st, the main concrete structure of the station building at Xi'an East Railway Station was successfully topped out.Xi'an East Railway Station is located in the core business office area in Xi'an. It is a mega-sized integrated transport hub that combines high-speed rail, conventional rail, metro, and bus services into one facility.
The station covers 394,000 square meters, with the building itself about 100,000 square meters. It has three main levels: Arrival, Departure Platform, and Elevated Waiting Hall, along with some mezzanines.
The station yard has 13 platforms and 27 tracks: 5 platforms and 9 tracks for the Xi'an-Chongqing High-Speed Rail, 4 platforms and 8 tracks for the Xi'an-Shiyan(Hubei Province) High-Speed Rail, and 4 platforms and 10 tracks for the Xi'an-Ankang Conventional Rail. There is space reserved for future intercity services, along with facilities such as an EMU depot and a conventional rail stabling yard.
Xi'an East Railway Station, a major transport hub in Northwest China, is expected to handle 36.5 million passengers annually, easing the pressure on the Xi'an railway hub.
In the future, it will work together with Xi'an North Railway Station to contribute to the city's transportation development. So, what exactly are the differences between these two stations?
Xi'an North Station is located in the northern part of the city, providing strong connectivity to other areas through a developed transport network. Xi'an East Railway Station, in eastern Xi'an, will serve as a key transport node, enhancing connections and driving development in that region once completed.
Rail Lines
Xi'an North Station primarily handles high-speed rail lines like Zhengzhou(Henan Province)-Xi'an, Datong(Shanxi Province)-Xi'an, and Xi'an-Chengdu(Sichuan Province), serving as a key hub for passenger flows to northwest and northern China. Xi'an East Railway Station, once completed, will focus on the Xi'an-Chongqing High-Speed Rail and other lines, enhancing connectivity for central and southwestern China and complementing Xi'an North Railway Station by covering eastern Xi'an and strengthening links to southern Shaanxi and surrounding regions.
Xi'an East Railway Station will connect with Metro Lines 5, 12, 15, and 21, enabling seamless transfers between high-speed rail, conventional rail, metro, and bus services. The urban area near the Xi'an East Railway Station is expected to drive industrial upgrading and spatial restructuring in eastern Xi'an, boosting the city's growth and becoming a new economic hub.
