The history of Xicang traces back to the "Yongfeng Granary," a grain storehouse from the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Over the past century, it has gradually evolved into one of the largest folk second-hand markets in Xi'an. With a dazzling array of flowers, birds, fish, insects, antiques, old books, everyday items, and handicrafts, visiting Xicang has become a unique pastime for local residents. The vibrant atmosphere of daily life that fills the market serves as a vivid symbol of urban culture in Xi'an.

Since 2024, Xi'an has implemented "minor renewal and gentle renovation" in the Xicang area. While preserving the traditional market style of the core area on Thursdays and Sundays, it has upgraded the original facilities, built Xicang Market Cultural and Creative Park, and created a new cultural consumption experience in the area.

Xicang has revitalized the core area of old Xi'an by introducing innovative business formats and launching a "new second-hand market." This market blends youthful elements such as coffee, trendy toys, experiences related to intangible cultural heritage, and exhibitions showcasing urban memories with the everyday environment. As a result, the area is continuously infused with new energy through "minor renewal."
According to the market staff, the concept of the "new second-hand market" is "sustainability and mutual prosperity". Since its opening in August 2024, it has successfully held multiple seasons of activities. Every Friday to Sunday, nearly 100 lifestyle curator gather here, bringing a variety of goods, including second-hand items, original designs, and intangible cultural heritage handicrafts, which form a unique market culture.
The transformation of Xicang Market is not only a spatial renovation but also a cultural inheritance and innovation. It bridges Xi'an's past and future, tradition and modernity, enabling the old market to radiate new vitality.
