On August 15th, the 2025 Shanghai Ranking Consultancy's Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) was released. A total of 12 universities in Shaanxi made the list, among which 5 entered the global top 500.

Xi'an Jiaotong University ranked 92nd globally, climbing 3 places from last year. Other Shaanxi universities in the global top 500 include Northwestern Polytechnical University (101st–150th globally), Northwest A&F University (201st–300th globally), Xidian University (301st–400th globally), and Northwest University (401st–500th globally). Among them, Northwest A&F University and Xidian University both moved up one ranking bracket from last year.

This year, several Shaanxi universities made it onto the list, including Shaanxi Normal University, Xi'an University of Technology, Air Force Medical University, Chang'an University, Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology, Shaanxi University of Science and Technology, and Xi'an University of Science and Technology. Notably, Chang'an University improved its position, moving up one ranking bracket from last year and now ranks between 601st and 700th globally.

Shanghai Ranking Consultancy's ARWU is one of the most influential and authoritative university rankings globally. It exclusively uses internationally comparable objective indicators and third-party data, and is renowned for the objectivity, transparency, and stability of its evaluation methods. It is widely reported and frequently cited worldwide. Each year, over 2,500 universities globally participate in the ranking, with the top 1,000 universities published.

This time, a total of 222 universities from the Chinese mainland made the list, an increase of 19 from last year, ranking first in the world. Among them, 13 entered the global top 100, the same as last year. A total of 22 universities from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan ranked among the global top 1,000, with 12 of them entering the global top 500, maintaining the same number as last year.
