A few days ago, the station sign of Xi'an East Railway Station was unveiled, marking its accelerated entry into final construction. With interior decoration nearing completion and supporting facilities being installed, the project is now 80% finished.
Xi'an East Railway Station is a major transportation hub located in the city's High-speed Railway East City CBD, integrating high-speed rail, subway, and bus services.
The station spans a total of 394,000 m², including a 100,000 m² station building. Its primary layout features three core levels—arrival, platform, and elevated waiting—supplemented by mezzanine floors. The emerging structure of the Xi'an East Railway Station has begun to reveal its distinctive design and impressive scale.
During the station's design process, professional technical teams repeatedly optimized the photovoltaic system layout, achieving a perfect fusion of green energy facilities and architectural aesthetics while maximizing low-carbon efficiency.
The railway and metro lines connected to Xi'an East Railway Station are as follows:
Railway Lines (High-speed + Conventional Speed)
1. Xi'an–Yan'an High-Speed Railway
Designed for 350 km/h, with Xi'an East Railway Station as the starting point, this line runs north through Tongchuan and Huangling to Yan'an. Partially open already, the full line will be connected upon the station's commissioning.
2. Xi'an–Shiyan High-Speed Railway (Shaanxi section of the Xi'an–Wuhan HSR)
Designed for 350 km/h, this line will open simultaneously with the station, linking eastward to Shiyan and Wuhan—reducing travel time from Xi'an to Wuhan to approximately 2.5 hours.
3. Xi'an–Ankang High-Speed Railway
Designed for 350 km/h and set to open concurrently, this line runs south to Ankang, cutting travel time from Xi'an to Ankang to under one hour.
4. Xi'an–Chongqing High-Speed Railway
Designed for 350 km/h, this line passes through Ankang and Dazhou to Chongqing. A key section of the Baotou–Haikou Corridor, it will originate from Xi'an East Railway Station.
5. Xi'an–Ankang Railway (Conventional Speed)
An established conventional-speed trunk line, serving as a terminal and transit route for conventional train services.
6. Reserved / Long-term Planning
Transport provisions have been reserved for the future integration of the Intercity Yard, the Yinchuan–Wuhan Connecting Line, the Southern Ring Line of the hub, and the Xi'an–Tongguan Intercity Railway.
Metro Lines (Four Lines Connected)
Already operational: Metro Line 5 (terminating at Xi'an East Railway Station, running east–west through the main urban area, Gaoxin District, Xixian New Area).
Planned / Reserved: Lines 12, 15 (Phase II), and 21. In the long term, these will enable a four-line interchange system combining high-speed rail and metro.
Xi'an East Railway Station is set to open this June alongside the Xi'an–Ankang High-Speed Railway. As a major railway hub in Northwest China, it is projected to handle 36.5 million passengers annually, greatly relieving pressure on Xi'an's rail network.
