Recently, Tongcheng Travel, the leading online travel service platform in China, released its 2026 May Day Travel Trend Report. The report shows that searches and bookings for Shaanxi travel products surged 73% year on year, with inter-provincial tourists accounting for 60% of visitors. Historical and cultural heritage remains the province’s core tourism advantage.

Among provincial capitals, Xi’an is one of China’s top 10 most booked air travel destinations for May Day. Searches for tickets to major landmarks such as the Terracotta Army, Huaqing Palace and Bell Tower surged by more than 120% month-on-month. High-end hotel rooms near Qujiang New District and the Bell Tower are in tight supply amid booming demand.
Bookings for night-view attractions doubled year on year. Xi’an’s Tang Paradise Ever-Bright City led nationwide night tourism popularity, driving nearby hotel prices up by roughly 80% week-on-week. Hanfu rental and makeup packages at the Grand Tang Ever-bright City remained highly popular, attracting 70% young female visitors.
Searches for Taibai Mountain National Forest Park and Baoji Bronze Museum rose 83% month-on-month. Huashan Mountain in Weinan saw doubled searches for hiking package tickets.
Tongcheng Research Institute noted that booming night tours and Hanfu experiences reflect Xi’an’s profound historical culture successfully shifting to meet the consumption demands of younger generations.

China’s inbound tourism sector is experiencing a robust resurgence, mirroring the country’s growing outbound travel. Upon the upcoming May Day holiday, major hubs like Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen emerge as the most popular destinations for international visitors. Foreign visitor arrivals soar 110% in Sanya and Jieyang, increasing over 70% in Xi’an, and rising more than 30% in Taiyuan, Changzhou, Kunming, Yanji, Nanning, and Wuhan.
