2026 marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Egypt. Xiao Nan, Deputy GM of Xiying Group, said the Cairo film week seeks to boost China-Egypt film exchanges and showcase authentic western China to Egyptian viewers. Originating on the ancient Silk Road, Shaanxi hosts Xiying, the birthplace of western Chinese cinema. In 68 years, the studio has created over 300 realistic films and won 80-plus international prizes. It nurtured China's Fifth Generation Directors — iconic pioneering filmmakers who reshaped Chinese cinema globally.
Ghada Ghobara, deputy head of Egypt's Cinema Professions Syndicate and former president of the Academy of Arts, described cinema as an important bridge between civilizations. He expects the film week to foster practical bilateral cooperation in filmmaking, co-production and industry experience exchange.
The week-long event is co-hosted by the Executive Committee of the Silk Road International Film Festival (Xi'an), Xiying Group, and Silk Road International Film Exchange & Trading Center, and organized by Xiying Digital and Xi'an Silk Road International Film Festival Co., Ltd.
