Recently, the 1st China-Thailand Contemporary Art Exhibition opened free to the public at Chang'an Cloud · Xi'an Urban Planning Exhibition Hall. Rooted in the Maritime Silk Road's cultural heritage, the event fosters in-depth artistic dialogue between Chinese and Thai creators, who explore how art bridges mutual understanding in the modern era.

The exhibition features 121 works, including modern sculptures, hand-drawn illustrations and Shaanxi-themed creations by Thai artists. Unbound by language, these diverse pieces deliver powerful artistic resonance. Showcasing emerging talents from China and Thailand, the exhibition spans floral-themed art, reimagined Silk Road symbols, paintings integrating Terracotta Army and traditional Thai tile elements, as well as bold, lively cartoon styles favored by young viewers.

From imaginative Thai sculptures to traditional Chinese brushwork, all art transcends language barriers, enabling visitors to connect with the artworks and their creators without words.

"Though this is my first trip to Xi'an, I have long been familiar with China. I love Journey to the West, which has greatly inspired my creations," said Bangkok-based Thai artist Konthorn Taecholarn. One of the exhibited works depicts Xuanzang and his disciples' pilgrimage for Buddhist scriptures. Iconic Chinese motifs including the ancient "round sky, square earth" cosmology, dragons and the Silk Road are embedded in the artworks to convey the artist's impressions, imagination and personal insights of China and Xi'an.

Chiang Mai-based Thai artist Lipikorn Makaew brought 16 pieces to the show to express themes of harmony, peace and spiritual belonging. "This is my third visit to Xi'an. It wonderfully blends profound history, traditional culture and modern creativity into a balanced, vibrant cityscape, exactly the mood I want to convey in my art. I hope to return later for cultural research on Xi'an," the artist shared.
