According to the biography of Bianque written in Shiji (the masterpiece recording monumental history of ancient China), Bianque was from Kingdom Qi (now Renqiu County, Hebei Province) during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States Period. His original surname was Qin and first name Yueren. He was not only the well-known medical scientist during the Warring States Period, but also the first person in Chinese history to have summarized the traditional medical practices. Bianque laid the foundation for clinical diagnosis and treatment methods of traditional Chinese Medicine, making significant contributions to Chinese Medicine science. Upon all these achievement, the name "Bianque" was given to him as the originator of Chinese Medicine.
